The laser blast rang out, loudly. As almost always happened, the jagged sound was accompanied by a sickening wet splash. Another space marine down.

The collected troops on the line quietly sighed. There was nothing glorious about this - cyber trench warfare against a robotic army with perfect accuracy. It was all they could do to hunker down and never, ever raise their heads about the trench line.

Three years. Three years in this hellacious metal wasteland, creeping forward inch by inch, losing thousands of the best the marines had to offer.

And in those three years, never once had the enemy advanced. What if they did? The marines' weapons were all but useless against the metal husks; an enemey advance would wipe out the entire human force in minutes. And yet, the robots seemed perfectly content to turtle up inside of their stronghold, picking off whatever unlucky idiot happened to raise his head an inch too high.

Something felt wrong, though. Something about the air - heavy with the heat of a thousand fusion rifles - was just too calm. Off in the distance: a growing rumble. A slight tremor, ever expanding until the ground was unstable beneath their very feet.

"It's coming! Cybertank!!" The troops rushed to the weapons embankment and immediately opened fire. Angry laser blasts rocketed through the air.

But it was no use. The tank's armor merely warmed at the lasers' strike before hardening up even sturdier than before.

Suddenly it was upon them, unfolding its wheels and turrets to form a grotesque robotic interpretation of a man, holding a larger-than-life laser pistol. The marine's fire slowed as realization dawned on them: this was the end.

The giant pistol swung towards the nearest marine, standing - bravely, definately! - waiting for the blast.

The robot pulled the trigger.

Out popped a flag that hestitated for a moment before unfurling downwards. "PEW PEW," it read, in glowing green letters.

The robot paused for a moment before opening it's "mouth," a giant speaker revealed beneath the metal panels. "LOL!" he electronically barked.

The mouth closed, and the robot wheeled away.
